What My Clients Taught Me

What my Clients Taught Me

In my previous profession— proposal development and writing—evaluation was a necessary part of every grant and every program. Evaluation told us what worked and what didn’t and how we could b2ap3_thumbnail_love-hands-healing-touch.jpgimprove. I wanted this same information from the 100 sessions I documented in preparation for Level 5. So I developed a brief evaluation form to elicit input from clients who saw me for three to five sessions. I offered five free sessions in exchange for completing the evaluation. When clients completed treatment they were asked to rate and comment on their results. Did they get the outcomes they wanted? Were there unexpected benefits? Was the setting conducive to treatment? (I have a home/office and dogs.) Did I talk too much? Were the suggestions for self-care helpful? I learned a lot during those one hundred sessions and I’m still learning! The highlights are below.

A Convergence Culture - Bridging Science and Spirit

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program April issue.  A Convergence Culture- Bridging Science and Spirit by Denise Lewis Premschak

A Convergence Culture- Bridging Science and Spirit

There is power in science that is unrivaled — unless it is by the enormous influence spirituality has had upon individuals, environments and nations throughout the ages. I’m sure it seemed b2ap3_thumbnail_prey-candles-in-the-church-1006516-m.jpgstartlingly audacious 20 years ago for the International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine (ISSSEEM) to assert its mission using the simple tag line, Bridging Science and Spirit. Oh, but the landscape has changed dramatically — whether because accepted science has been contradicted so many times by new findings or because we have actually begun to integrate spirituality, broad-perspective thought, and methodical analysis. We, as humans, not only need to know how the world works, but we need to believe in what it all means and need it to inform us in living our lives —morally, ethically, and spiritually.

“We know the truth, not only by reason, but also by the heart.” Pascal

My Level 4 Modality Saved My Work Life

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program March issue.  My Level 4 Modality Saved My Work Life by Ellen Laffey, HTCP

The Parthenon in Athens, Greece is a site to behold. Five thousand years old! When one stands on this hallowed ground, you cannot believe you are walking in the steps of Socrates, Aristotle and Saint Paul.

Marble is the stone from which the Parthenon is constructed. As time, weather, and millions of visitors have worn down the marble, it is very slippery from dust and sand covering the stone. Signs alert visitors, “Slippery rock; watch your step.

While on the grounds of the Parthenon, I was walking and taking in the site. I stepped over a very low pile of rocks. The bottom of my sneaker slid right down the side of the rock. My feet and legs rose up in the air, and I came right down onto my coccyx on top of stone. I checked my spine, legs and arms before I got up. No damage. I was so thankful as people surrounded me to help me up.

Essential Energy

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program March issue. Essential When There’s No “Me” To Be Found by Cyndi Dale

My chronological age, not to be announced, places me at the inception of the “Me” generation, which could have catapulted me into a life of ease. A workday assessing the cacao content of bon bons followed by a chauffer-driven excursion to the mall to buy yet another pair of vital black shoes. Unfortunately, I did not read the small print – “Me” came to mean if there is a hole, fill it, even if it is in someone else’s backyard; a job incomplete, a need, problem, or emotion to assuage; it is my job. Being a “Caretaker” is similar to being the “vacuumer,” the vacuum, and the electric charge, all at once. You end up exhausted and pick up “stuff” that was not yours in the first place.

Elder Wisdom

Note: Because each Elder story is a unique personal memory back in time, we recognize the potential challenge of accuracy; we appreciate, accept and will publish corrections if needed.
I was recently invited to be part of Healing Touch Program’s Elder Council and asked if I would be willing to write about my experiences in the early days of Healing Touch. I am honored to share some memories.

It seems like both yesterday – and a very long time ago – that I received a telephone call from my friend, Dinny Riegel, insisting that I attend a workshop in Gainesville, Florida. Two and a half years earlier I had moved from Illinois to North Carolina, but before leaving NC, I had learned about energy healing from Alan Mesher. I had shared this new knowledge with Dinny and Jan Shepardson. All of us were blown away by the work and wanted to learn more. In 1989, I had just finished massage school and opened a private practice when the call came from Dinny. She and Jan had just returned from a pilot workshop for a new program called Healing Touch and were determined that I would go to the first “official” Level 1 class to be held outside of Colorado – the very next weekend! Dinny even insisted on paying my tuition. How could I say no?? I met Dinny’s daughter, Dory, on the way, and off we went to Gainesville.

Nicholas Brady is a Healer

Originally published in Energy Magazine: The official Publication of the Healing Touch Program March issue. Nicholas Brady is a Healer. by Walle Adams-Gerdts, HTCP, Healing Touch Instructor

Nicholas Brady is a healer. He has enthusiastically agreed to allow me to assist him this day as he works with his mother in a Healing Touch session. He assists her to the table and then inquires “What is bothering you today, Mom?” She relates that she has tight shoulders and a tension headache, in addition to a mid-lower back ache, which she feels are all related to the over-scheduled calendar that she has recently been following. Nicholas makes sure that she is comfortable lying face down on the treatment table with her head resting in the face cradle. He reminds her that he is placing a bolster under her feet to decrease the pressure on her back.
