Mentors

Mentorship has always been part of the Healing Touch journey. The relationship of mentor and mentee is a dynamic one of guidance, support, nurturing and advising that is designed to instill confidence, reinforce knowledge and prepare an individual for program completion and the professional role of an HTCP.

Roles of Mentorship

HT Session

Mentorship has two significant roles in the Healing Touch Program. First, it is used during the period between Levels 4 and 5 to help prepare students for program completion. Healing Touch Program Level 5 students must be in an active mentorship process with a Healing Touch Certified Practitioner for at least three months prior to attending Level 5. This Supervised Mentorship experience is discussed thoroughly during the Level 4 class to help prepare the students and assist them in finding a suitable mentor.

The second role mentorship plays is for those who are preparing for certification. Practitioners who have completed Level 5 and received a Certificate of Course Completion may choose to apply for certification. The certification criteria require one full year of Supervised Mentorship. This period includes the Supervised Mentorship between Levels 4 and 5.

Qualified Mentors (QM) and Mentors

HT Session

Mentors historically were, and continue to be, those who have achieved Healing Touch Certified Practitioner (HTCP) status, and who are willing to serve as mentors. Certified practitioners who actively practice Healing Touch have the opportunity to step into a leadership role by mentoring others who are pursuing Level 5 and/or practitioner certification. As of 2011, Qualified Mentors must serve as supervisor for any non-QM or any mentee who is working with a non-QM.

Definition of a Qualifed Mentor (QM)
A Qualified Mentor is a Healing Touch Certified Practitioner (HTCP) who has demonstrated on application, and by acceptance, to be objectively qualified to successfully mentor students toward program completion and practitioner certification. A Qualified Mentor may supervise  his/her own mentees as well as other non-QM mentors and their mentees.

    Definition of a Mentor
A Mentor can be anyone who has achieved HTCP status and is in good standing with HTP. Mentors are not required to apply for QM status. As of 2011, all non-QMs and their mentees (including nurses) must be supervised by a QM.

Finding a Mentor

Students may find Mentors and Qualified Mentors through the Practitioner Directory. Once in the directory, simply search under “Mentor Status” for either Mentor or Qualified Mentor. Click here for the directory. The Practitioner Directory is the source recommended to students for determining  whom to interview as a possible mentor (or mentors) for support during their  apprenticeship period. The directory shows each mentor’s qualifications and contact information. It offers information about the mentor  including type  - Mentor or Qualified Mentor, any mentoring charges,  group or individual mentoring offerings and type of mentoring - local or long distance .
